I'm trying Reformer Pilates

The Reformer Room at House of Hot Yoga
You’ll find The Reformer Room inside House of Hot Yoga in Angel, Islington.
Never used a Reformer before? You’re in the right place.
You don’t need any previous Pilates experience to get started. Our Reformer classes are taught in small groups of just 6, so your teacher can give you plenty of guidance and help you get comfortable with the equipment.
What is Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates is performed on a specialised piece of equipment called a Reformer, using springs, straps and a moving carriage to add resistance and support to your movements.
Classes are designed to build strength, improve mobility and flexibility, and work your whole body through controlled, low-impact movement.
Is it suitable for beginners?
Yes.
You don’t need to have done Pilates before, and you definitely don’t need to know how to use a Reformer.
If it’s your first time, we recommend starting with Reformer Foundations, where your teacher will introduce you to the equipment and guide you through the fundamentals.
- No previous experience needed
- Small classes of just 6
- Individual guidance from your teacher
- Options and modifications throughout
Which class should I start with?
Reformer Foundations
This is the best place to start if you’re completely new to Reformer Pilates.
You’ll learn how to use the Reformer safely and confidently while working through a full-body class at a controlled pace.
Don’t be fooled by the name – Foundations is still a challenging, full-body workout. The class simply moves at a more controlled pace, with more time to understand the equipment, technique and movements.
What should I bring?
- Grip socks – these are required for all Reformer classes
- Comfortable workout clothes
- Water
You don’t need to bring any equipment – everything else will be ready for you in The Reformer Room.
What happens when I arrive?
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your first class.
Check in when you arrive and let your teacher know that it’s your first Reformer class. They’ll show you around the Reformer and explain how everything works before you begin.
Our Reformer Room has just 6 machines, keeping classes small and giving you more individual attention from your teacher.
What if I'm late?
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your class, particularly if it’s your first visit.
For safety reasons, late entry is not permitted once a Reformer class has started.
A few tips for your first class
- Start with Reformer Foundations if you’re completely new
- Don’t worry if the equipment looks complicated – your teacher will show you exactly what to do
- Move at your own pace
- Tell your teacher about any injuries or anything they should be aware of before class
- Expect to discover muscles you didn’t know you had!
